iPads a Plenty

By now everyone that is interested has probably seen or at least heard the results of Apple’s October 16th 2014 announcements. Not many surprises for the most part, but the one thing that really sticks out for me is what I call the ‘Android effect’ of the iPad line up, namely way too many choices for the consumer to know what they want.

It used to be that you could walk into any store and say you want an iPad and at best make a choice from two different ones excluding storage size. This was the beauty of essentially Steve Jobs saying keep it simple. I struggle to see how in the World anyone at Apple things that keeping Steve’s memory alive involves making the line up so confusing to the average consumer that it reminds us of the device diversification that makes the Android platform so annoying to begin with.

Even worse for developers we still have to consider the iPad Mini non-retina which really should be retired at this point rather than give Apple the opportunity to have a device at every $x00.99 level.

On the plus side though, the retina iMac is a welcome sight in the line up and sure to peak the interest of many, even with the slightly high price tag if you want a decent specification.
